no cost preventive care

Preventive care services can help you avoid illness and improve your health. This includes things like screenings, checkups, physicals, shots and vaccinations – even some types of counseling. Under the reform law, you and your family are able to get these important preventive services at no cost to you.*

See what preventive services are recommended to be covered.

Here's what's different

In the past, you had to pay a copay, coinsurance or deductible for preventive care. Now you won't have to pay these costs or file a claim for these services as long as you get these services from a doctor in your plan's network.

How it impacts you

If you use a doctor who's in your plan's network, you get free access to preventive services like:

  • Many cancer screenings, including mammograms and colonoscopies
  • Counseling on quitting smoking, losing weight, eating healthfully, treating depression, reducing alcohol use, and other topics
  • Preventive care physical exams, which are covered for all ages
  • Routine vaccinations against diseases like measles, polio or meningitis
  • Counseling, screenings and vaccines for healthy pregnancies
  • Flu and pneumonia shots

What preventive services are covered at no cost?

Click the link above for a full list of preventive services that are recommended to be covered without a copayment, coinsurance or deductible. They're covered only when you get these services from an in-network provider.

Are preventive care services covered at no cost if I get them from an out-of-network provider?

No. They're covered at no cost only through an in-network provider. You may have to pay part or all of the costs if you use a doctor outside the network. Check your policy for complete coverage details.

* Have health insurance under a grandfathered plan? If so, you might not get these benefits. If there is any difference between the information on this website and your health plan, your policy's provisions will apply.
